I love that you're seeing the silver linings. We're all thinking of you back here (admittedly whilst enjoying healthily sized gins and tonic). Keep on keeping on!
This was brilliant - as ever. I wonder how we handle the imbalance in the relationships which means we are seen simply as money-machines when we travel. It distressed me in my 20s and I am no better at finding a peaceful place inside now I am in my 60s.

Small pleasures this end… I’m sure they’d be dwarfed if I glimpsed a healthily-sized gin & tonic!
Love the reference and memories of safe times watching Lion King ..... keep in keeping on Rosie and elt the positives shine through xxx
Great stuff Jake - love that you're finding green after desert, and joy out of stoning! Epic trip, epic experiences!

Thank you Jox! It’s a tricky one… The only real answer I’ve found is starting out with a smile… it’s hard to wrong with that instinct!
Though I’m glad to hear it’s a universal struggle and I haven’t missed a glaringly obvious quick fix!
Bravo Jake ! And thankyou again for reminding us that we always have a choice. I feel so proud of you, I think I must be an aunt we didn't know about
So lovely to hear! If I’ve learnt anything from the villages here, it’s that you can never have enough aunts… So I’ll gladly adopt one more!
